The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) is undertaking the Regional Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment under the Climate Change Adaptation in the Eastern Caribbean Fisheries (CC4FISH) Sector Project from 2017-2020. This work aims to improve understanding of climate change impacts and vulnerabilities in coastal and fishing communities to inform adaptation in the Eastern Caribbean fisheries sector. CANARI is implementing this work in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)/Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) and national fisheries authorities in four project countries - Grenada, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago. The CC4FISH project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Under the project, CANARI and the Ministry of Sports, Culture & the Arts, Fisheries & Cooperatives are conducting vulnerability and capacity assessments in three (3) coastal and fishing communities - Grenville and Gouyave in Grenada and Windward in Carriacou.
The assessments will be carried out from September to November 2020 and will involve rapid community mapping, semi-structured interviews and development of a vulnerability and capacity matrix for data collection and analysis. The focus of assessments will be on the fisheries sector and related activities.
