This report focusses specifically on discussions relating to the data availability and proposed analytical work relating to the goals of the Common Oceans and BirdLife International (CO, BLI) project on seabird bycatch assessment. The discussions were held between the BLI project team and members of the Japanese National Research Institute for Far Seas Fishery (NRIFSF) on 29-30 January 2018.

This document summarizes the methods and results of a survey designed to estimate angler expenditures and willingness-to-pay (WTP) for billfish recreational fishing in the Caribbean. The survey conducted in 2017 found that the value of billfish recreational fishing and expenditures by recreational fishers are very high in the region and that there is the potential to raise conservation funds from this resource user group.

The aims of the Inception Workshop were to introduce key stakeholders (government officials, foreign fisheries agents, ports authority, and other NGO representatives) to the Port-based Outreach Pilot Project based in Suva, which falls within the BirdLife component (Output 3.2.1) of FAO’s GEF-funded Common Oceans Tuna Project. It also provided the stakeholders the opportunity to share concerns and provide valuable information on how best to access vessels docking in port.
