A Checklist for Farmers’ Selection
This tool is developed for facilitating selection of suitable farmers for piloting contract farming of dry beans in Lesotho. The criteria were developed for the buyer who does not have prior experience in CF and very limited capacities in developing and managing contracts and contractual arrangement. The farmers are mostly small-scale, have limited capacity for commercial production and no prior experience with contracts to sell their products. The pilot CF is to build capacities for both the buyer and farmers. Therefore, this tool can be relevant and helpful for buyers and farmers who have similar capacities and want to enter into CF scheme.

Guiding Questions for Contract Analysis
This tool of guiding questions for contract analysis is for planning and implementing contract farming operations. The tool can help the contract parties to decide whether their contract is consistent with the good practices recommended by FAO and its partners. It is also important to keep in mind that the domestic legislation in some countries might contain other requirements for the form and/or content of agricultural production contracts.
This is a compliance tracking matrix that helps prepare, manage and evaluate performance of contract farming operations developed based on FAO’s Guiding Principles for Responsible Contract Farming (2012) and the contract samples on our CFRC.
