Regional training on the new CountrySTAT for francophone countries

14/11/2016

The Statistical Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is organizing the regional training on the new CountrySTAT system for Francophone countries from 28 November to 1 December 2016, in Dares-Salam, Tanzania.

The CountrySTAT system is based on FAO's 50-year experience in expertise in agricultural statistics, including the development and implementation of the global agricultural database - FAOSTAT, which is a reference for all users in the world. It uses the FENIX platform, which is an Internet-based system and open source technology, offering flexibility to meet the different needs of users and projects worldwide, regionally and nationally.

The CountrySTAT network is growing worldwide, both in number and in scope. The Statistical Division of FAO Headquarters in Rome continues to devote considerable effort to technical support to countries and the development of methodologies, concepts, definitions and classifications to be used by FAO Member States to ensure comparability and Exchange of data between countries, and to foster regional cooperation in this field.

The latest report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP) in the world stresses that some 805 million people have been undernourished in the period 2012- 2014, or 11.3% of the world's population.

The overwhelming majority live in developing countries, where it is now estimated that 13.5% of the population is affected by undernourishment.

CountrySTAT is a tool made available to decision-makers, development partners and other users in the fight against hunger and poverty. So CountrySTAT facilitates evidence-based planning and decision-making to accelerate the process of hunger reduction and malnutrition.
