Gender and Social Inclusion in Drought Management: Policy and Practice - Side Event at the Drought Resilience +10 Conference
01/10/2024
Background
Drought being one of the most complex natural hazards requires adequate and timely planning. It is critical that implementation strategies for drought plans are developed in order to adapt and mitigate, prepare and respond to droughts and in doing so gender and social inclusion need to be integrated in the process. Drought affects men, women, boys and girls differently thus in ensuring that no one is left behind, the socially excluded communities should be empowered for climate related action.
Objectives
This side event, Gender and Social Inclusion in Drought Management: Policy and Practice, aims at going beyond policy and will bring out practical aspects of how gender equality and social inclusion are integrated in drought management policies and practices. This session will be very participatory as it will include three presentations and a panel discussion with a question-and-answer segment.
In terms of Inclusivity – the Panel discussion will include a balance between male and females including a youth.
