We are well on our journey now. So far, the scientists on board have studied six sampling stations, collecting data related to oceanography, biological production, such as chlorophyll, phytoplankton and zooplankton. There have also been three trawl stations where the scientists have collected samples of mesopelagic fish.
Other sampling has gone forward for plastic particles, and we have found small (microplastic particles) in almost all stations where we have sampled for these.
We have already observed large plastic debris floating on the surface, and we will continue to carry out systematic observations of this debris.
The teams set up initially have been working well, and the scientists will now move into a series of watches, allowing them to work in teams continuously, both during the day and the night.
