Comparing the carbon footprint of alternative banana value-chain arrangements
The specific characteristics of production systems can be a main responsible factor determining the overall carbon footprint of a product along its life cycle.
The paper at hand analyses the differential performance of organic and conventional banana production systems and quantifies to which extent changes on the production level have the potential to reduce the overall carbon footprint of bananas.
At the same time it is shown how EX-ACT can be used as a tool for quantifying the carbon footprint along the entire value chain.
