FAO and Turkey’s cooperation continues to prosper through two Partnership Programmes dedicated to food security and sustainable management of natural resources – the FAOTurkey
Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture (FTPP) and the FAO-Turkey Forestry Partnership Programme (FTFP), both of which are supported by trust fund contributions of the Government of the Republic of Turkey, which total to date USD 30 million.

The brochure provides an overview of the approach that FAO takes to support countries in non-EU Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, the Caucasus, Turkey and Central Asia in tackling food loss and waste. This includes the development of national strategies and actions plans, activities to strengthen national capacities and food loss and waste measurement systems, promotion and enhancement of food recovery and redistribution systems, improvement of awareness as a means of changing behaviour. The approach is demonstrated on one of the projects implemented in the region.

This flyer provides information about the project titled "Improving efficiency of small ruminants production for reduction of the GHG emission intensity". Covering Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the project aims for increasing capacities to analyse and improve the efficiency of small ruminants production systems in each participating country and the Central Asian subregion as a whole.

The virtual workshop was formulated under the project “Capacity Building for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Management in Central Asia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey (FISHCap): - GCP/SEC/013/TUR” implemented under the FAO-Turkey Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture (FTPP II) funded by the Government of the Republic of Turkey.
The event was organized on 23–24 June 2020 in two sessions in cooperation with Bogazici University’s Center for Climate Change and Policy Studies, a research centre conducting interdisciplinary research on the impacts of climate change.

A Regional Coordination Center for Sustainable Food Systems
Under the project, a Regional Cooperation Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (BSEC-CSFS) has been established with a clear mandate, relevant institutional framework and technical capacity to enhance the sustainability of the whole food value chain from farm to fork among Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organizationmember states. The BSEC-CSFS will provide the member states with advice, guidance and information in the areas of sustainable food systems.

Being implemented in close collaboration with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the project aims to strengthen ECO-RCC’s capacity to provide systematic and useful support to member countries to enable them to acquire the necessary advice, guidance and information to improve their food security and nutrition policies and programmes. The project is targeting ECO member countries (Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) and lasts between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2022 with a budget of USD 500 000 provided by the Government of Turkey.

FAO and Turkey have enjoyed a solid partnership since the country joined the Organization in 1948. The country has benefited from wide-ranging assistance from FAO and other partners, shaped by the FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF). Over the years, Turkey has also become an active resource partner, providing indispensable technical and financial support to the Organization’s activities, particularly within the Central Asian subregion.
