A Regional Coordination Center for Sustainable Food Systems     Under the project, a Regional Cooperation Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (BSEC-CSFS) has been established with a clear mandate, relevant institutional framework and technical capacity to enhance the sustainability of the whole food value chain from farm to fork among Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organizationmember states. The BSEC-CSFS will provide the member states with advice, guidance and information in the areas of sustainable food systems.

Being implemented in close collaboration with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the project aims to strengthen ECO-RCC’s capacity to provide systematic and useful support to member countries to enable them to acquire the necessary advice, guidance and information to improve their food security and nutrition policies and programmes. The project is targeting ECO member countries (Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) and lasts between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2022 with a budget of USD 500 000 provided by the Government of Turkey.

FAO and Turkey’s cooperation continues to prosper through two Partnership Programmes dedicated to food security and sustainable management of natural resources – the FAO-Turkey Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture (FTPP II) and the FAO-Turkey Forestry Programme (FTFP), both of which are supported by trust fund contributions of the Government of Turkey, which total to date USD 30 million. This Newsletter is a sixth-monthly publication to share the recent updates from the projects and activities implemented within the scope of the FTPP II.

FAO and Turkey have enjoyed a solid partnership since the country joined the Organization in 1948. The country has benefited from wide-ranging assistance from FAO and other partners, shaped by the FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF). Over the years, Turkey has also become an active resource partner, providing indispensable technical and financial support to the Organization’s activities, particularly within the Central Asian subregion.

The CAC-Rust project has been developed to address wheat rust diseases faced by the countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus. The project will facilitate regional collaboration and strengthen national capacities to improve surveillance, race analysis and integrated disease management. Fishcap Project aims to increase regional capacities to effectively address the sustainable exploitation, management, protection and development of freshwater resources for sustainable fish production in support of food safety. Target countries of the project are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The project lasts between 1 Jan 2020 and 31 Dec 2023. Republic of Turkey is the donor of the project and provides with USD 1 000 000 budget.

Funded by the Government of the Republic of Turkey, the project aims to assist Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in developing measures to reduce food loss and waste.
