FAO carries out a technical mission to support and strengthen innovation plans of farmers' organizations in Guyana
From August 8 to 15, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and PROCASUR will monitor the progress of farmers' organizations in organizational and business matters.

After the Learning Route carried out in May of this year in Guyana within the framework of the Farmers Organizations for African, Caribbean and Pacific project (FO4ACP), FAO, together with the PROCASUR Corporation, continue the development of monitoring and support activities for family farmers’ organizations in Guyana with the aim of consolidating the innovation plans of each organization.
During one week, FAO and Procasur will organize a series of workshops to follow up on the design of the Innovation Plans developed by the farmer’s organizations, addressing the capacity to successfully implement the proposal, achieve key milestones and proficiently manage the financial support.
The 8 farmers' organizations that participated in the Learning Route last May, Gibraltar/Fyrish Farmers Association, West Berbice Sheep and Goat Farmers Association, Mocha Arcadia Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative, Pomeroon Export Producers Association, Pomeroon Bee Keepers Association, Blue Flame, Central Mahaicony and Perth Village Farmers Association and Medicine from Trees will be visited to leverage the various practical and concrete actions to improve the associative and entrepreneurial capacities in their respective organizations.
Maria Hadad, FAO specialist, believes that the most important thing of this technical visit to Guyana will be to assess and support the development of organizational capacities and empower the organizations to develop strategic plans that enable the participants to achieve their goals in the short, medium and long term.
Althea Giles, representative of the Pomeroon Exporter Producers Association farmers' organization, hopes that the results of this FAO technical visit will allow unlocking the potential of their organizations through the joint effort of the technical team and the richness of knowledge of the farmers who participate in the organizations.

About the FO4ACP Program
This initiative is part of the Farmers' Organizations for Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (FO4ACP) program, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the European Union in support of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). Its objective is to increase incomes and improve livelihoods, food and nutrition security and the security of organized small and family farmers in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries by strengthening regional, national and local farmers' organizations.
