FAO begins selection process for Farmers' Organizations in Guyana for its training program

During the month of April and until Tuesday, May 3 2022, all applications options will remain open so that the farmers’ organizations can apply.

During the month of April and until Tuesday, May 3 2022, all applications options will remain open so that the farmers’ organizations can apply.

The FO4ACP Programme aims to improve the livelihoods and food security and nutrition of organized smallholder producers by strengthening the operational and technical capabilities of farmers’ groups across the country. This initiative is being supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the European Union.

As part of the training programme, farmers' organizations are invited to apply to receive technical support to strengthen their capacities to provide services and advice to their members to improve their participation in markets through support and mentoring in areas of institutional development, economic services and policy advocacy.

Guyanese farmers’ organizations that aspire to enter this Training Programme must meet the eligibility criteria, which includes registration and compliance with the Department of Friendly Societies and Co-operatives, Ministry of Labour. In addition, they are required to be composed of smallholder producers with at least a minimum 15 active members, and able to demonstrate a gender balance in its make-up.

As reported by FAO, special consideration will be given to farmers’ organizations that demonstrate a gender balance and youth representativeness, experience in contract negotiation and group selling and experience in fundraising or executing other initiatives to finance group operations and promote sustainability.

Registration will be done online through the FAO FO4ACP Programme Page (https://www.fao.org/in-action/farmers-organization-africa-caribbean-pacific/en). It is also possible to obtain the application forms at the FAO Representation, GuySuCo Compound, LBI, East Coast Demerara; and the Ministry of Agriculture, Regent Street, Bourda, Georgetown.
