CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT AND EXTENSION

Capacity development enables relevant stakeholders to improve their knowledge and abilities related to many aspects of forest and landscape restoration. This module provides access to training programmes, learning courses and other extension materials, and has been developed in the context of the GEF6 funded program “The Restoration Initiative”.

This project has strengthened the operational capabilities of the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB), with regard to environmental regularisation and rural management, and improved the implementation and use of environmental regularisation instruments in the pilot regions: Acre, Amazonas, and Rondônia. It has moreover developed the competencies for the implementation of environmental regulation at the federal, state, and local levels.

FACET is a technical assistance project designed to help U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) missions and implementing partners apply information and communication technologies to agricultural projects. The project’s goal is to improve competitiveness and productivity of agricultural value chains and facilitate trade in agricultural products across sub-Saharan Africa. FACET shares knowledge with USAID missions and implementing partners on sustainable and scalable approaches for using information and communication technologies and provides short-term technical assistance to improve use of these technologies.

SilvaCarbon is an interagency technical cooperation program of the US Government to enhance the capacity of selected tropical countries to measure, monitor, and report on carbon in their forests and other lands. Drawing on expertise and resources from multiple US Government agencies and partners, the program provides targeted technical support to countries in the process of developing and implementing national forest and landscape monitoring systems. SilvaCarbon leverages state-of-the-art science and technology to advance the generation and use of improved information related to forest and terrestrial carbon.

This course focuses on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) practices, and their place within the global development agenda, specifically in order to achieve target 15.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aims "to achieve a land degradation-neutral world". The course assists policy makers, practitioners and land users in the selection, planning, implementation and monitoring of SLM interventions, and related enabling environment.
