Twenty-sixth session of the Near East Forestry and Range Commission: Restoration Initiatives in the Mediterranean Region

The Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism (FLRM) team will participate in the upcoming event, Restoration Initiatives in the Mediterranean Region: the Flagship program under the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and other initiatives on 10 September 2023 from 16.00 to 17.30 (UTC+3) in Amman, Jordan.
To showcase the indicative role of the Mediterranean, the Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions - Silva Mediterranea applied for the Restoration Flagship Initiatives under the framework of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021–2030 (UN Decade) and received a contribution from the Multi-Partner Trust Fund. Efficient post-fire restoration practices have been implemented throughout the Mediterranean region, due to the continuous threat and rise of forest fires. This session will offer post-fire restoration practices to all stakeholders working with wildfire management within the region and across the world. The main objectives for this session will emphasize on the following:
- successful case studies of forest ecosystems restoration practices;
- prompt other Mediterranean countries to integrate restoration practices as nature-based solutions for land resiliency and offer financial prosperity for local stakeholders; and
- instigate joint regional collaboration towards more restoration of resilient landscapes susceptible to wildfires.
