Capacity building workshop: “Monitoring tools available for forest and landscape restoration in the Mediterranean region”
The capacity building workshop hosted by the European Forest Institute Mediterranean Facility (EFIMED), with the support of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) on, “Monitoring tools available for forest and landscape restoration in the Mediterranean region”, will take place on 6-10 November in Barcelona, Spain.
The previous regional workshop on, “The Paris Agreement in Action”, was an International Climate Initiative (IKI)-funded project. The main objective was to share knowledge related to planning and monitoring forest and landscape restoration in the Mediterranean region.
This upcoming workshop will apply a learning-by-doing approach and will allow participants with limited knowledge of remote sensing to analyze satellite imagery and collect data consistently in the Mediterranean region. It will also help participants better understand the context of Mediterranean forest and landscape restoration, with a focus on the role of monitoring frameworks.
The training will also be an opportunity to share experiences and expertise, thus contributing to regional dynamics and knowledge sharing. Moreover, the seminar will showcase available FAO-developed monitoring tools for ecological restoration to guide management actions and inform future planning and enhancing the FRA 2020 Remote Sensing Survey (RSS) for the Mediterranean region.
