The Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism

Side events at COFO26 and WFW2022

The Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism (FLRM) participated at the Twenty-sixth Session of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO26), which took place at the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy, from 3 to 7 October 2022 in a hybrid format. Held at the margins of COFO26 was the Eighth World Forest Week (WFW2022), which took place from 29 September to 7 October 2022 also in a hybrid format.

COFO26 aimed to strategize the direction of the future work of FAO in forestry. This work includes forest solutions for combating climate change and creating sustainable economies, as well as the linkage of agriculture and forestry. COFO26 provided the opportunity for dialogue amongst participants on these efforts to contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As for the WFW2022, this showcased best practices on the ground and promoted conversation on forestry and environmental issues. The WFW2022 was structured around the priority areas of the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–2030 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. To achieve the vision of a sustainable and food secure world for all, inclusive and resilient agrifood systems were advanced for better production, nutrition, environment and lives.
