Are you a student or early-career researcher passionate about sustainable bioenergy? The Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) has officially launched the 2025 GBEP Youth Award, and this year it’s all about celebrating Africa’s talent!
The award is your chance to shine. It is designed to spotlight the creativity, innovation and dedication of young minds working to solve some of the most pressing challenges of our time —renewable and clean energy access, climate change and food security.
Why Africa?
Africa is a continent brimming with potential for bioenergy solutions that can transform lives and communities. The 2025 GBEP Youth Award will be assigned in the context of the 12th GBEP Bioenergy Week, the flagship event of the Global Bioenergy Partnership, which is held every year, since 2013, in a different region of the world. The 12th edition of the GBEP Bioenergy Week will take place in Kampala (Uganda). That is why the 2025 GBEP Youth Award focuses exclusively on students or early-career researchers from African universities.
Whether you are pursuing an undergraduate, master’s or PhD degree, the GBEP Youth Award is your chance to step into the spotlight and show how your research can make a difference.
What are we looking for
We want to hear and give voice to your ideas, your vision and solutions. Submit your original research papers on topics like innovative bioenergy technologies, business models and policies, sustainable bioenergy production practices and the role of bioenergy in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The winners will be celebrated during the 12th GBEP Bioenergy Week in Uganda. Not only will your work be showcased at a high-level event, but it will also be featured in GBEP’s global communications—giving you the visibility and platform to take your research to the next level!
