Launch of the Third Phase of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics
22/10/2024
We are proud to announce the continuation of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics, now entering its third phase. Developed in 2009 and designed as a 15-year process to be implemented in several phases, the initiative was endorsed by the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) during its 41st session in 2010. The Global Strategy was designed to provide a “framework for national and international statistical systems enabling developing countries to produce, and to apply, the basic data and information needed in the 21st Century."
This transformative initiative continues to strengthen agricultural statistical capacities in participating countries. Since its inception, the project has been instrumental in helping countries develop robust frameworks to produce reliable agricultural data, which are essential for policy-making and sustainable development.
Building on the achievements of previous phases, we are excited to expand our reach and collaborate with new countries. This next phase will focus on further enhancing the capacities of national agricultural statisticians, equipping them with advanced statistical knowledge and cost-effective methodologies.
This third phase is designed to be a multidonor program. With the generous support of the Bill Gates Foundation, the first donor for the African continent, we look forward to deepening our partnerships and working alongside new countries to foster greater collaboration, innovation, and development in agricultural statistics. Together, we are committed to shaping the future of agricultural data, ensuring that policymakers have access to high-quality information that drives sustainable agricultural growth.
