Import notifications - China

In China, the Import and Export Food Safety Bureau of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China conducts inspections of imported food and publishes information on food that has been denied entry.

Customs use the "Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China" and other relevant laws as the basis for inspection and quarantine, and have established specific requirements for production enterprises, imported products, and certificates.

The General Administration of Customs has different policies and regulations for inspection, quarantine, and health requirements for imported aquatic products from various countries, including the following content:

1. Inspection and quarantine basis;
2. Scope of imported products;
3. Production enterprise requirements;
4. Imported product requirements;
5. Certificate requirements; and

Legal Basis for Aquatic Product Inspection and Quarantine

1. The "Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China" and its implementing regulations, the "Law of the People's Republic of China on Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine" and its implementing regulations, and the "Law of the People's Republic of China on Import and Export Commodity Inspection" and its implementing regulations.
2. The "Measures of the People's Republic of China for the Administration of Safety of Imported and Exported Food" and the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on the Registration and Administration of Overseas Manufacturers of Imported Food."
3. The "Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine and Health Requirements for Aquatic Products Exported to China between the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China and Various Countries" (if applicable).

Chinese Customs implement inspection and quarantine on aquatic products exported to China. For non-conforming products, they will be returned, destroyed, or otherwise disposed of by Chinese laws and regulations. For production enterprises that have serious problems or repeatedly produce non-conforming products, China will take measures such as strengthening inspection and quarantine or suspending imports.
