Discussing certification in the context of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture


In celebration of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022), the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division in collaboration International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) through the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza (CIHEAM Zaragoza) organized a webinar on Sustainability Certification: harnessing the potential for small-scale fisheries and aquaculture on 18-19 May 2022.

The webinar gathered speakers from Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe, and was attended by 319 participants from 64 countries over the 2 days.

The event provided an overview of the current status of and trends in sustainability certification schemes, capacity development initiatives, as well as organic certification and geographical indications. It also discussed constraints and trends in fish trade related issues with a special emphasis on small-scale operations.
