01/09/2021

After a year’s break, Russia’s biggest international fishing industry exhibition is back. Having survived the COVID-19 pandemic, the global fishing industry is today operating under new conditions. The steps taken at all levels have enabled new sanitary standards to be introduced and enterprises to function normally. At the same time, the changes taking place require a rethinking of development strategies and traditional operating regimes.

IV Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia 2021 will take place on 8-10 September 2021 at the Expoforum Exhibition and Convention Centre in St. Petersburg. Organized by the Federal Agency for Fishery, the Forum is the fishery sector’s key event in Russia and the perfect platform for aquaculture professionals to promote international trade, advanced equipment and technology.

The over 26,000 sq.m. area will accommodate more than 350 companies engaged in fish catching, farming and processing, ship building and repair, production of equipment for the industry, logistics and retail.

For the third time, FAO GLOBEFISH will participate in the Seafood Expo with a dedicated booth intending to meet countries, organizations, traders, and all fisheries stakeholders to exchange ideas on how to contribute to sustainable growth in the aquaculture sector.

On the first day of the event, FAO GLOBEFISH will host a session entitled "Fisheries and Aqualculture Market Information as a Powerful Tool for Assesing Business Opportunities". The main objective of this event is to show the importance of access to information, in particular market and trade information, as an essential aspect to allow fisheries and aquaculture traders to maintain and conquer local, regional and international markets in a sustainable way, increasing their competitiveness.

The event will also allow attendees to understand better how FAO GLOBEFISH, INFOFISH and EUROFISH can support the private sector in providing information on markets and trade to support their business activities and other knowledgeable products. UNCTAD will present an overview of tariffs and non-tariff measures applicable to trade in marine fisheries products, their nature and effects, and links with the COVID-19 impacts and post-recovery analysis. The event will support attendees to increase their awareness of the importance of the interconnectivity between information and having a resilient sector to overcome any significant problem affecting production, distribution, markets, or any specific part of the value chains.
