The Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative

In this interview, Dr Lahsen Ababouch, Director of FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Economics and Policy Division, discusses FAO's perspective on ecolabelling for fish and fishery products and the role GSSI aims to play.

The GSSI is a multi-stakeholder initiative with the mission to deliver a common, consistent and globally applicable Benchmark Tool for seafood certification schemes. By developing such a Benchmark Tool, GSSI’s goal is to ensure confidence in the supply and promotion of sustainable seafood to consumers worldwide as well as guide improvement in seafood certification schemes.
