Looking ahead
The 2026–2027 biennium will focus on strengthening FAO GLOBEFISH’s core activities while responding to emerging global priorities. The program will enhance market transparency tools, expand technical assistance at country and regional levels, and deepen youth engagement to support sustainable development and inclusive participation across fisheries and aquaculture.
Output 1 — Market access, capacity development and youth engagement
- FAO GLOBEFISH Market Hub – a new centralized digital platform that will provide up to date export requirements for major import markets, including the EU, USA, and China. By consolidating regulatory information and linking to official documentation, the Market Hub will help exporters meet standards, reduce border rejections, and improve competitiveness in global markets.
- Targeted training and capacity development - in response to Member needs and requests, we will deliver specialized training on trade regulations, food safety, certification schemes, value chain analysis, market access for small scale actors, and social responsibility. Activities will prioritize youth, women, and small scale fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders, supporting more equitable participation in international trade.
- Youth engagement in the Blue Economy - To address rural to urban migration and build the next generation of sector professionals, FAO GLOBEFISH will expand youth focused initiatives, including interdisciplinary training, study tours, and internship opportunities that highlight diverse career pathways in fisheries and aquaculture.
Output 2 — Market intelligence, price monitoring and global reporting
- We will continue producing regular trade and market analyses through its publications, with a focus on the impacts of contemporary global issues.
- Global Fish Price monitoring - building on the European Price Dashboard, FAO GLOBEFISH will integrate additional regional price data to create a comprehensive global system offering automated, accessible fish price information. This will support producers, especially in developing countries and small scale sectors, with real time insights for better market decisions.
- Contribution to SOFIA 2026 - FAO GLOBEFISH will support the development of the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA) 2026, featuring its analytical tools and the expanded fish price dashboard.
Output 3 — Global engagement, events and expert dialogues
- FAO GLOBEFISH will strengthen its presence at major international events, with expanded participation in Asia and Latin America. Key engagements include:
- To complement in person outreach, we will launch a global webinar dialogue series, bringing together experts to discuss emerging markets, technological innovations, and evolving trade dynamics.
