FAO GLOBEFISH participated in the Seafood Expo Global (SEG) Barcelona, held from 21 to 23 April 2026, reinforcing its role as a key reference point for market intelligence, trade analysis and policy‑relevant insights for the global fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Throughout the event, FAO GLOBEFISH engaged with a wide range of stakeholders, including industry representatives, government officials, regional organizations and development partners, on emerging trends shaping international aquatic food markets. Discussions focused on trade dynamics, market transparency, price developments, regulatory frameworks, supply chain adjustments, sustainability requirements and the growing relevance of data‑driven analysis for navigating increasingly complex and interconnected aquatic food markets.
FAO GLOBEFISH showcased its analytical tools, information products and flagship publications, including up‑to‑date market reports, outlook analyses and thematic insights to support evidence‑based decision‑making. Particular interest was generated by the capacity development programme on international trade and market access, as well as the quarterly species reports, youth engagement initiatives and the price dashboard.

The Expo also provided a valuable platform to strengthen existing partnerships and explore emerging challenges and new areas of collaboration, particularly in relation to capacity development, market monitoring and knowledge dissemination. Bilateral meetings included the Brazilian Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the European Commission/Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, the Norwegian Seafood Council, the China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance (CAPPMA), the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the Spanish National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Seafood (ANFACO), CONXEMAR and the Market Advisory Council (MAC) among others.
Participation to two side events was a key opportunity to exchange views and updates on “Blue Ports and the fisheries Industry: building resilient and efficient value chains” and “Navigating uncertainty: building a resilient EU market for fisheries and aquaculture products”. Exchanges with stakeholders at the FAO GLOBEFISH booth underscored the continued demand for timely, neutral and technically robust information to support both public and private sector actors operating in fisheries and aquaculture value chains.
FAO GLOBEFISH’s participation in SEG Barcelona 2026 confirmed the importance of international trade fairs as forums for dialogue between policymakers and industry. It reaffirmed the project’s commitment to supporting inclusive, transparent and efficient aquatic food markets worldwide. FAO GLOBEFISH once again thanks all partners for their continued support, the many stakeholders who stopped by for an enriching exchange, and the SEG organizers for this invaluable opportunity.
We look forward to seeing you next year!
