Eight-Treasure Rice Pudding

Ingredients

rice: 1 cup
grapes: 20
oranges: 1/4 cups
groundnuts: 10
walnuts: 10
water: 1/2 tablespoon
sugar: 3 tablespoons
lotus, seeds: 10
shortening: 2 tablespoons
corn, starch: 1/2 tablespoons
beans, red: 1/4 cup
dates: 5

Steps

1. Clean and wash rice; cook until is done. Set aside.
2. Chop walnuts, raisins and candied orange peel. Make a paste with cornstarch and cold water and set aside.
3. Grease the bottom of bowls. Divide all ingredients except rice and sweet red bean paste among the bowls.
4. Divide rice and bean paste into 4 portions. Place 2/3 of each portion of rice in a bowl to cover the nuts and fruits, then put sweet red bean paste in the center. Cover the bean paste with remaining rice; flatten it.
5. Steam at least 2 hours. Unmold on serving platter.
6. Boil sugar in 1 cup water. Thicken with cornstarch paste. Pour syrup on pudding. Serve immediately.
