A multi-country workshop on assessment of environmental flows and the disaggregation of the level of water stress by river basin and sub-basin is taking place in Lima, Peru from 4 to 6 February 2025. It brings together six countries: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico and Peru.

The event focuses on disseminating and sharing knowledge on the methods and tools applied by the Autoridad Nacional del Agua of Peru (ANA) to assess environmental flows and to disaggregate the SDG 6.4.2 indicator (level of water stress) at the basin and sub-basin level in two pilot areas: the Rio Pisco and the Huallaga river basins.

The disaggregation of the SDG 6.4.2 in Peru plays a key role in the ongoing preparation of a new National Water Policy Plan, a collaborative effort underway between ANA’s Water Planning and Development Division and FAO-Peru.

This initiative is part the FAO’s efforts to support Member States in monitoring and achieving SDG targets. The workshop becomes an opportunity to discuss how policy and decision-making processes can benefit from the assessment of environmental flows and the disaggregation of the indicator 6.4.2, not only in Peru and but also in all the countries of the region interested in implementing these methodologies.
