In Rwanda, KnoWat delivers Rulindo’s first solar-powered irrigation system

In the framework of the KnoWat project, FAO has delivered three ENOS/Sunlight solar pumps to farmers of the Yanze Horticulture Production Cooperative (YAHOPROC) in Rulindo district.
Water access is a challenge for vegetable producers in the district as they have to share water from the Yanze River with the capital city of Kigali. The pumps will be used to deliver water to fields where water delivery was difficult due to the hilly terrain. They substitute treadle pumps which were cumbersome to operate, particularly by women farmers.
