Knowing water better: towards fairer and more sustainable access to natural resources - KnoWat

Strengthening water governance in Senegal


FAO launched the "Knowing water better - toward fairer and more sustainable access to natural resources for greater food security (KnoWat)" project in Dakar, Senegal on 14 November 2019.

A one-day workshop was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Equipment (MAER), the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS), the Society for Development and Exploitation of the Delta Lands (SAED) and the producer organisations of the Senegal River Valley. 

Thirty three participants attended the workshop including officers and experts from FAO, OMVS, technical ministries (agriculture, water, environment), SAED, research institutes, representatives of farmers' organizations and civil society.

During the workshop, the main challenges that need to be addressed in an inclusive and participatory manner to improve water governance in the Senegal River Valley were identified and discussed. In addition, the Technical Advisory Committee was established and held its first meeting.
