Knowing water better: towards fairer and more sustainable access to natural resources - KnoWat

In Rwanda, crop data collection to assess water productivity is ongoing

08/12/2020

In the framework of the KnoWat project, crop mapping is carried out in the three catchments in Rwanda - Muvumba, Lower Akagera and Yanze - for three agricultural seasons during 2020 and 2021. The area is totalling more than 1000 square kilometers. The information is used to calibrate the data on water productivity derived from remote sensing which will be available on the WaPOR portal from early 2021.

Crop data collection for season C was concluded in September 2020 in all three catchments. The collection for season Season A is currently ongoing. Data for season B could not be collected this year due to to the Corona pandemic. It will be recovered in 2021, just after season A.
