Today, resilience is a concept that is on everyone’s radar. In contexts where recurring disasters and crises undermine agricultural-based livelihoods, understanding how and why rural households and communities cope with shocks and crises, and evaluating the impacts of resilience-building interventions is crucial to avoid the deterioration of hunger and malnutrition levels. Building more resilient livelihoods is increasingly being recognized as one of the most powerful means to mitigate – and prevent – food security crises.

The insight of why and how people become food insecure suggests ways of preventing this from happening. The knowledge generated on resilience measurement efforts has the potential to drive better designed interventions that enhance people’s ability to manage risk over time and increase resilience; ultimately diminishing the need for humanitarian interventions when hazards occur.

Therefore, there is a growing demand to systematically measure and analyze resilience to inform and formulate evidence-based policy, programmes and investments for food security and to allocate resources appropriately. The right tools are needed to provide indicators on urgent needs to address, and how to go about building resilience in specific contexts.

This series of webinars will explore the various resilience measurement and analysis tools used by practitioners. The events will be an opportunity to present the tools, discuss context-specific case studies and underscore the results and impacts of resilience measurement and analysis on programming and policies.
