Rethink > Repurpose > Reform lunchtime side event at CFS 49 on 14 October
MAFAP and the Agrifood Economics Division at FAO will hold a side event with UNEP and UNDP during the margins of the Committee on Food Security on 14 October 2021.
The lunchtime event taking place at 12:45-14:15 CEST/Rome time, will bring together stakeholders and government to rethink, repurpose and reform agricultural support, outlining HOW countries can repurpose their support to farmers in a way that is better for the natural environment and human health.
Most of today's support is not fit for purpose, thus jeopardizing efforts to improve food security and nutrition. Current support is heavily biased towards measures that are distortive, inefficient, uequally distributed.
The agenda is as follows:

- Andrew Bovarnick, Global Head, Food and Agriculture Global Commodity Systems Strategy, UNDP
- Steven Stone, Chief, Resources and Markets Branch, UNEP
1-minute video interlude
Presentation of main findings from inter-agency report on repurposing agricultural support by:
- Marco V. Sánchez, Deputy Director and OiC day-to-day matters, Agrifood Economics Division, FAO
