Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture (MICCA) Programme

2018: Based on a collaboration with various GIZ-lead initiatives (“Supporting the national strategy for adaptation to climate change” project, “Support Project for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPA)“, the NDC Helpdesk and the NDC Support Cluster of the International Climate Initiative), MICCA contributed to the ongoing efforts of Mali’s government to improve internal capacity on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories for the AFOLU sectors.

In March, a three days training based on IPCC 2006 Guidelines at tier 1 and on the FAO-MICCA e-learning curriculum on national GHG inventories for AFOLU was given in Bamako to sixteen officers selected by the governmental Agency for Environment and Sustainable Development (AEDD). The training covered all agriculture sources and processes as well the generic methodologies for the FOLU sector through presentations and hands-on exercises.

The trained officers are expected in the short term to contribute to all stages of production of the inventories for the next national reports, namely the first Biennial Update Report of Mali.
