Training on the forestry component in Morocco
FAO is implementing a feasibility study using the MOSAICC tool for assessing climate change impact on the forests of Morocco.
A training with national experts took place took place from 1 to 5 June 2015 in Rabat, Morocco. The main objective was to present the forestry component of the MOSAICC module and provide participants with information to be able to use the new forestry module.
The practical training focused on forest modelling through presentations and textbook examples, using national data of Maâmora sites. The training involved 21 national experts from the High Commissariat of Water and Forest and Fight Against Desertification (Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et à la Lutte Contre la Désertification - HCEFLCD), one participant from each regional directory, three participants from the central office of HCEFLCD of Morocco and three students from the National Forest School of Engineers (Ecole Nationale Forestière d’Ingénieurs, ENFI) who were introduced to this new forestry module and expressed great interest to adopt it in their area of work. All participants contributed with ideas and suggestions how to better improve the tool functionalities and put it into practice.
After the training, FAO will provide support and guidance to the already trained national staff and specialized institutions to utilize and test the module with national data, as well as assistance to produce and analyse the final results.
