Brazil-FAO Cooperation brings together 12 countries to plan training actions in food and nutrition education

Project Consolidation of School Feeding Programmes in LAC promoted a meeting on actions for teachers in FNE

Brasília, February 6, 2023 - The project Consolidation of School Feeding Programmes in LAC brought together professionals from 12 countries on Friday, 3rd, to discuss and plan actions on food and nutrition education (FNE).

The trilateral south-south cooperation project is carried out by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC/MRE), the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE/MEC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

There were professionals, technicians and managers of the school feeding policy at the national level from FAO and governments from 12 countries: Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. 

The objective of the meeting was to present the work plan of the Brazil-FAO Cooperation in school feeding and the possibilities of developing training for teachers in food and nutrition education in each of the countries.

The follow-up step will be to organize individual meetings with each of the countries in the coming weeks. They will prepare documents detailing the type of technical support necessary for the execution of the courses for teachers.

“Since our work on school feeding began in 2009, the Brazil-FAO Cooperation has been working to strengthen the capacities of all those involved in the school feeding policy, at different levels of government, promoting the exchange of experiences, technical missions, courses and training, sharing good practices and strengthening the human resources of the countries and consolidating the policy at the regional level”, explained Najla Veloso, coordinator of the project Consolidation of School Feeding Programmes in LAC.

"For this reason, training teachers is essential, since schools and classes are dynamic, interactive spaces and capable of promoting a healthy food culture in this and future generations."
