WaPOR, remote sensing for water productivity

WaPOR at the Science and Innovation Forum

Hybrid Event, 17/10/2024

WaPOR will be presented during the Rome Water Dialogue session "Innovative Approaches to Agricultural Water Management", which will be held on Thursday, 17 October 2024 from 11.00 to 12.30 CEST, in the context of the Science and Innovation Forum of the World Food Forum.

During the session, the speakers will share with the plenary success stories and lessons learned on good inclusive practices on water and food production (irrigation modernization, water productivity and water tenure) in different countries.

The overall objective of the session is to present advances in agricultural water management and governance through innovative approaches, explain through concrete examples how these innovative approaches can improve water policies, and discuss how these practices can be transformed to better water allocation policies beyond the examples.

With the world population reaching around 10 billion in 2050, we will need to produce 50% more agrifood products than in 2012, which will require at least 20% more water (SOLAW, 2021). The changing rainfall patterns and warming climate put at risk the food security and the livelihoods of farmers and people worldwide.
