New WaPOR brief highlights how co-creation drives adoption of data driven water solutions

30/03/2026

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has released a new brief presenting a co creation approach for developing and scaling data driven solutions using the WaPOR database. The publication, WaPOR: Catalysing data driven solutions through a co creation approach, was developed by experts of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).

The brief documents how tailored tools developed jointly with national partners can improve water management practices and support informed decision-making.

It draws on experiences from Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Sudan and Tunisia. These country cases demonstrate how engaging stakeholders throughout design and implementation strengthens ownership, capacity and long term sustainability.

The publication also highlights the importance of integrating gender equality and social inclusion into co creation processes.
