WaPOR, remote sensing for water productivity

WaPOR online training expands for master’s students in Palestine

22/03/2025

On 22 February, 15 March, and 22 March 2025, as part of efforts to promote and disseminate WaPOR in Palestine, the WaPOR team from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Al-Quds University organized three online seminar sessions on WaPOR.

The sessions targeted 13 master's students specializing in water resources management, particularly in agriculture, including seven women.

The seminars covered a range of topics, including:

  • An overview of the WaPOR Phase 2 project and the WaPOR portal
  • Introduction to remote sensing and its applications in water management
  • Downloading Sentinel-2 images from the Copernicus Open Access Hub
  • Accessing and downloading WaPOR data through different approaches
  • Applying geospatial analyses using WaPOR data

The training was led by members of the WaPOR National Team, including Dr. Amer Sawalha, Lecturer at Al-Quds University, Ali Ramadan, Principal Lecturer for the sessions, and Issam Nofal, National Project Coordinator.

By integrating WaPOR into academic learning, the sessions helped enhance students’ technical skills in geospatial analysis and water productivity assessment, supporting data-driven decision-making for sustainable water management in Palestine.
