Validation workshop of the WaPOR-based Irrigation Performance Tool in Northern Jordan Valley

On 25 February 2025, the WaPOR team at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized a validation workshop at the Geneva Hotel in Amman, Jordan, as part of the co-creation process of the Irrigation Performance Assessment Tool, developed the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the Jordan Valley Authority (JVA). This initiative aims to enhance irrigation management by utilizing WaPOR data to support decision-making and optimize water resource allocation in the Northern Jordan Valley.
The workshop gathered key stakeholders, including representatives from FAO, IWMI, and JVA, to discuss and refine the tool. The participants engaged in presentations on the tool’s functionality and its role in improving irrigation efficiency, followed by hands-on validation exercises. Breakout discussions provided an opportunity for stakeholders to give feedback on the tool improvements and its practical application in the decision-making process.
Mr. Hisham Haisa, Secretary General of JVA, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the tool’s significance for JVA’s operations and a long-term water management strategy. The workshop concluded with a session on data visualization for enhanced decision-making.
On the same day, representatives from IWMI and FAO met with JVA’s Secretary General to discuss further collaboration and the next steps for integrating the tool within Jordan’s water management framework. This workshop represents an important milestone in strengthening data-driven irrigation management, reinforcing collaborative efforts to improve water efficiency and agricultural sustainability in the region.
