WaPOR showcased at the International Conference on Irrigation and Climate Resilient Production in Ethiopia

The International Conference on Irrigation and Climate Resilient Production 2025 was held from 12 to 14 February 2025 at the Adwa Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing irrigation efficiency and resilience in the face of climate change.
During the event, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) showcased its water-related initiatives, with a strong focus on WaPOR, FAO’s remote sensing-based portal for monitoring water productivity. The presentation provided an overview of WaPOR’s global reach and highlighted its implementation in Ethiopia, where it supports sustainable water management and agricultural productivity.
This conference served as a platform to introduce WaPOR to a wider audience, fostering discussions on potential collaborations with national and regional institutions. Participants expressed keen interest in leveraging WaPOR’s data and tools to enhance decision-making in irrigation and water resource management.
Moving forward, FAO aims to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders to expand the use of WaPOR in Ethiopia, ensuring that it effectively contributes to climate-resilient agricultural practices in the country and beyond.
