WaPOR training in Mali: Concepts and validation of WaPOR data
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Office du Niger (Mali) and with technical support from IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, organized a two day training workshop on “Concepts and Validation of WaPOR Data”. The workshop brought together 18 technical participants from national institutions involved in agriculture, irrigation and water resources management.
The event, held both at the FAO offices in Bamako and at the Office du Niger in Ségou, aimed to strengthen national capacities to better understand, assess, and utilize data from WaPOR, the FAO’s open-access database on water productivity derived from remote sensing. In their opening remarks, the FAO Programme Team highlighted the importance of WaPOR as a tool to support evidence based decision making, emphasizing its role in improving agricultural planning, optimizing water allocation and supporting climate resilient food systems.
