WaPOR was featured at the Rome Water Dialogue 2024

The third edition of the Rome Water Dialogue was held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy from 14 to 18 October 2024, as part of the annual World Food Forum, with a number of water-related events and sessions.
Livia Peiser, Senior Land and Water Officer, presented WaPOR during the session “Innovative approaches to agricultural water management” (17 October, 11.00 – 12.30 CEST). It was discussed how WaPOR data and tools are transforming agricultural water management at scale. FAO has developed the WaPOR portal to provide actionable data and information and, together with its partners, supports capacity development and co-design of applications in more than 13 countries.
The session also presented FAO's intervention on irrigation modernization in Pakistan (Robina Wahaj, Land and Water Officer, FAO Pakistan) and FAO's work on water tenure (Benjamin Kiersch, Senior Water Tenure Consultant at FAO, and Alsaad-Ndayizeye, River Flood Control Specialist at the Rwanda Water Resources Board).
Representatives from FAO Member Nations also contributed to the dialogue, discussing innovative solutions to increase water productivity amidst climate change and severe water scarcity: H.E. Meike van Ginneken, Special Envoy for Water of the Netherlands; Amir Mohyuddin, Additional Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan; and Omar Chafki, Director, River Basin Agency of Bouregreg and Chaouia of Morocco.
