Palestine: Workshop to present the final results of the field data collection – crop mapping for the winter and spring seasons in the Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate

The Applied Research Institute-Jerusalem (ARIJ), in coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), and the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA), organized a final workshop to present the field data collection for crop mapping for the winter and spring seasons in the Jericho and Jordan Valley Governorate.
This workshop was held under the FAO project “Monitoring Land and Water Productivity by Remote Sensing (WaPOR Phase 2),” funded by the government of the Netherlands in close collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture. The event took place in Ramallah, Palestine, on Monday, September 30, 2024. Approximately fifty participants from various government institutions, non-governmental organizations, the National Agriculture Research Center (NARC), and universities attended the workshop.
The Minister of Agriculture, the Head of FAO in Palestine, the head of the FAO program in Palestine, and the Director General of ARIJ participated in the workshop, where they listened to the results and provided statements on the significance of agriculture and water for Palestinians, the challenges of water scarcity, and the use of technology for sustainable water management. They emphasized the importance of WaPOR in this approach and expressed strong interest in continuing and building on the results.
