Regional Food Security and Nutrition Programme for Central America (PRESANCA II) of the Integration System of Central America (SICA)

As part of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the PRESANCA II seeks to contribute to the reduction of food and nutrition insecurity in the most vulnerable populations in Central America, strengthening the integration system as part of a process that aims to build integrated policies on social, environmental and economic issues. PRESANCA II emphasizes the strengthening of the Regional Strategy for Food and Nutrition Security looking particularly at the political and regulatory processes as well as knowledge management and territorial development.

As part of the training of human resources in food and nutrition security in Central America, PRESANCA II develops both, a Regional Masters Programme on Food Security and Nutrition (MARSAN) with an emphasis on local management, public management of national programmes, regional integration, and systems of information and a Diploma Programme on Food and Nutrition Security and Local Development in Central America (TECNISAN).

The project, in collaboration with the regional component of the Special Programme for Food Security in Central America (PESA), and the project that supports the Hunger-Free Latin America and the Caribbean Initiative (IALCSH), supports PRESANCA II in the incorporation of the right to food as one of the modules of MARSAN and TECNISAN. Through this technical support, the project has developed regional training workshops on the right to food, as well as tools and materials for applying a human rights-based approach to legislation, policies, programmes and district plans that are relevant for food security and nutrition.
