25.11.2015 – Dhaka – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with Oxfam, concluded today the South Asian Dialogue on the Right to Food, an event jointly organized which called for the participation of a multistakeholders platform with members from government, national Right to Food networks of civil society organizations and movements, academia and think tanks, Oxfam and FAO, from four countries in the region India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh. FAO and Oxfam say it will promote an emerging right to food community of practice for improved food security in South Asia.

31.08.2015 – The new Law on School Feeding of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, adopted in December 2014, aims to ensure the human right to adequate food, to strengthen the development of local production and increase school attendance rates. The Law n. 622 represents a step forward in the development of food sovereignty and the Living Well (Vivir Bien).
26.06.2015 – Now also available in Nepalese.<br/>[10.10.2014] The FAO Right to Food Team, in collaboration with the FAO Development Law Branch and Office in Nepal, is pleased to announce the launch of the Review of the legislative framework and jurisprudence concerning the right to adequate food in Nepal. The review discusses overarching aspects of Nepalese law and jurisprudence dealing with this human right. It provides a critical assessment of constitutional as well as legislative provisions and offers a thorough analysis of Supreme Court jurisprudence pertaining to the right to food. In addition to judicial remedy, the review also covers non-judicial means of remedy against the violation of food rights. Finally, the review also offers a set of concrete recommendations, touching upon a wide range of aspects of the human right to adequate food.

20.03.2015 – On March 4th, the FAO office in El Salvador and its counterpart, CONASAN, organized a National Forum on the right to food that provided an opportunity for the country, based on an inter-institutional outlook and a State vision, to gather a wide range of institutions which have been contributing to this human right and saw the need for coordination to further improve. The Forum provided the opportunity to launch "Advances and obstacles in the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines to Support the Progressive Realization of the Right to Adequate Food in the Context of National Food Security – The case of El Salvador", which systematize and communicate advances and challenges of the State related to the substantive application of the Right to Food Guidelines in light of the retrospective process for the tenth anniversary and the 41st session of the Committee on World Food Security.

23.02.2015 – As part of its strategy to achieve food sovereignty, the government of Bolivia approves a new law to regulate complimentary school meals and to foster a social economy by means of produces purchased from local producers. Law No 622 on School Feeding in the Framework of Food Sovereignty and Plural Economy, approved by the Plurinational Legislative Assembly, aims to contribute to educational performance and promote the permanence of students in the educational entities of the Plurinational Education System, through a safe, opportune and culturally appropriated diet.

 

11.12.2014 – FAO, Rome. An interview with Nayda Medrano, Coordinator of the FAO project on the right to food in El Salvador, Jesús Guzmán, Adviser to the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico, and Juan Carlos García y Cebolla, Team Leader of the FAO Right to Food Team in Rome, guests on the TV program "Agenda Ciudadana", in El Salvador. The three experts share experiences and lessons learned from El Salvador and Mexico on how each country has moved forward in contextually different, yet equally important ways towards the implementation of the right to food at country level.

04.03.2014 – A very interesting interview to the Bolivian Senator Martha Poma was realized by the FAO Office in Bolivia on 14 January 2014. In the interview, currently available on the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger website, Senator Poma talks about the importance and relevance for the realization of the right to food of the Forum of the Parliamentary Front Against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean. She also highlights the growing participation and dialogue in the region on legislative processes linked to the right to food and new goals and challenges ahead for its implementation.
03.03.2014 – On 20 November 2013 the FAO Office in El Salvador launched the Right to food awareness campaign and its linkages with Food Security and Nutrition, created together with the Association of Participatory Radio and Programmes of El Salvador (ARPAS), with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) of El Salvador.
02.07.2013 – On 14 June 2013, more than 40 experts from 8 West African countries concluded a two day’s consultation with the adoption of recommendations and commitments related to concrete activities to be conducted in their respective area of work so as to contribute to the advancement of the right to food in the region. The expert consultation, convened by the UN Special Rapporteur for the right to food, Olivier De Schutter, was co-organized by FAO and the Office of the High-Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
25.06.2013 – El Salvador - 4 June 2013. A group of 39 Salvadoran professionals in Law, Nutrition, Education and Biology, among other areas, concluded this week the training course on the Right to Adequate Food conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). "The main objective of this training course was to provide participants tools to better grasp the concept of the Right to Adequate Food in a practical way.
15.01.2013 – What is the relationship between the right to food and investment in agriculture and rural development? How can human rights provide tools for investment plans and projects? These issues were discussed during a parallel session entitled “The Right to Food: How is it relevant to investment in agriculture and rural development?” organized within Investment Days on 18 December 2012. Investment Days are a yearly two-day retreat that bring together colleagues of the FAO’s Investment Centre (TCI), including employees of such related institutions as the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Bank to share knowledge and experiences.
10.01.2013 – Maputo – An important milestone was reached on December 14, 2012, during the II meeting of the Food and Nutrition Security (FNS) cluster held in the amphitheater of the Mozambican Ministry of Agriculture and chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture José António Pacheco Candugua when SETSAN launched its website from now on available at www.setsan.gov.mz
03.12.2012 – In the context of the project "Integrating the Right to Adequate Food and Good Governance in National Policies, Legislation and Institutions", a training workshop on monitoring and protecting the right to adequate food was held in Nagarkot, Nepal on 7-9 November 2012. The training workshop marked the beginning of activities in Nepal under the project. It was convened jointly by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Nepal National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in collaboration with Food-first Information and Action Network (FIAN) Nepal, the Nepal National Women Commission and the Nepal Justice and Rights Institute (JuRi-Nepal).
26.10.2012 – El Salvador – October 2012. FAO contributed to the capacity strengthening on the right to food of Parliamentarians in several countries. In that context, the team of the project Right to Food at Country Level, managed by the Right to Food Team of FAO, organized a mission to El Salvador in October 2012, in light of the strong will from various actors in the country as well as the support of the FAO Representation in El Salvador.
12.07.2012 – A milestone of institutional strengthening was reached on 21 March 2012, when the the Comissão Interministerial da Função Públicaapproved SETSAN’s Organic Statute which has been made official through the Decree No. 7/2012. The new Statute gives SETSAN juridical status, higher administrative independence - including in the management of human and financial resources, and enjoys an official mandate which protects its coordination role, also in a decentralized structure.
18.06.2012 – We are pleased to announce the publication of The right to food and global strategic frameworks: The Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition (GSF) and the UN Comprehensive Framework for Action (CFA). It shows how the right to adequate food can be integrated into strategic frameworks on food security and nutrition as an overarching goal, as a principle that guides all steps of implementation, and as a tool to strengthen the capacities of duty-bearers and right-holders to make the human right to adequate food reality for all. Moreover, two fact sheets are available on the issue.

29.03.2012 – The right to food plays a crucial role in the context of the reformed Committee on World Food Security, as integral part of its vision, as strategic orientation of its work and as practical way to achieve the objective of a world without hunger and malnutrition. Expert consultation on the implementation of the right to food: experiences from Latin America & the Caribbean

20.06.2011 – On June 9 and 10, 2011, an expert consultation on the right to food in Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Bogotá jointly organized by the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). In all, around 50 food experts, parliamentarians and policy-makers from the region discussed on the progress made and the challenges ahead in the realization of the right to adequate food for all.

Supreme Court of Nepal ruling on the Right to Food
30.05.2011 – In April 2011 the Supreme Court of Nepal published a key decision regarding the right to food in the country. Included in the Interim Constitution of 2007 and clarified by a Supreme Court interim order in September of 2008, the right of everyone to adequate food has been reinforced by this decision and some vital specifications have been made. Aside from the availability of food, the Court puts emphasis on the role of the authorities in ensuring that food is accessible and affordable for the people. This is a significant step forward taken to ensure the respect, protection and fulfilment of the right to food.
