Indicators to monitor the Agricultural Development Strategy
FAO SAMIS, CCAFS and Utrecht University collaborated since 2020 to design and implement a foresight and anticipatory governance national scale activity for the agricultural sector in Lao PDR. Based on these analyses, policy recommendations containing proposed actions and strategies are elaborated, including developing a process in which all interested partners will be involved to define the potential monitoring activities for the Agricultural Development Strategy implementation.
A workshop, chaired by Dr. Boundeth Soutthavilay, DDG of the Department of Planning and Cooperation at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, took place on 28-29 April 2022 at Thavisouk hotel in Vang Vieng financed by the FMM project. The workshop included 32 participants from the Department of Planning and Cooperation (DOPC), National Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development Research Institute (NAFRDI), Department of Agriculture Land Management (DALaM), Department of Irrigation (DOI), Department of Agriculture (DOA), Department of Rural Development (DRD), Department of Organization. The National Project Director of the SAMIS project and DDG of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Viengxai Manivong, also participated.
The workshop was divided into two parts. The first day related mostly to the definition of the list of indicators, and the discussion is consultative and concerns all the technical departments that are relevant for each indicator. The next day’s program was more specific session to support the field level testing mission, which will require the use of advanced apps and mapping systems to test the reliability of the monitoring system.
As a follow up to the workshop, SAMIS Expert will prepare the updated indicators. The monitoring indicators measurement will be inserted into KoBo toolbox form and a testing mission will be organized.
