ScaleWat: scaling up capacities for responsible governance of water tenure

Regional pre-dialogues on water governance principles bring together multiple stakeholders in Latin America and the Caribbean

16/09/2025

With two virtual seminars held on September 11 and 12, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through the project ScaleWat: scaling up capacities for responsible governance of water tenure, opened a regional exchange space to advance toward shared principles of responsible water governance.

The first webinar brought together representatives from governments and international organizations; the second convened community organizations, civil society, academia, youth, and the private sector. The contributions gathered will feed into the Regional Dialogue on Water Tenure in Latin America and the Caribbean and, subsequently, the Global Dialogue recommended by the FAO Committee on Agriculture, which seeks to build international guidelines for more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable water governance, based on local realities.

FAO will consolidate the contributions from these pre-dialogues and other sectoral spaces in the region to move forward toward the Regional Dialogue on Water Tenure (February 2026, Panama City). The results will form part of the global discussion aimed at defining international principles for responsible water governance to guide policies, investments, and practices in countries.
