FAO work
Evidence-based policy support
FAO is developing an anticipatory action plan for extreme hydrometeorological events. This action plan aims for the prevention, mitigation, and response to disasters, ensuring linkages with social protection mechanisms to support vulnerable communities.
FAO is designing a communication strategy to develop digital materials that advocate for the approval and implementation of draft laws related to small-scale producers in fishing and agriculture, as well as the School Feeding Programme.
Technical tools development
FAO is identifying and assessing fishing organizations that have the potential to supply fishery products to schools. This would support small-scale fishers in accessing institutional markets and contributing to the School Feeding Programme.
Cross-sectoral work
FAO is working to improve the sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture with the Blue Growth programme. It also supports the Entorno Escolar Saludable strategy to strengthen the school feeding programme (PAE). FAO is also helping to build national capacities to prepare for climate shocks and respond to droughts.
