Support to 1000 Digital Villages initiative
Main Goal
This product is intended for participating local/national governments to initiate digitization in rural areas (to support the 1000 digital villages global initiative) as a post-COVID-19 recovery measure.
To date, the project has prepared work plans in the following countries:
- Argentina: promotes an Initiative focused on strengthening the digital skills of small and medium-sized agrifood producers that have Geographical Indications and Designation of Origin (IG/DO), enhancing their market development and valuing rural work.
- Chile: carries out a digital project that includes providing connectivity access in community-use facilities, offering training to develop digital skills and providing necessary equipment (smartphones, tablets or others).
- Costa Rica: implements the “Integrated Pilot System of Digitization and Agroclimatic Information” to provide information on the diagnosis, control and nutrition of agricultural crops, supporting decision-making for the producers benefiting from the project.
- Cuba: works on creating a digital ecosystem to expand the use of digital tools to develop the potential of tourism activities and the commercialization of the involved communities.
- Jamaica: focuses its efforts on a digital project that aims to connect small farmers with potential buyers, thereby improving the agricultural development of participating producers.
- Panama: promotes a territorial digital ecosystem in the Ngäbe Buglé comarca to stablish connectivity points in indigenous communities and develop basic digital skills among the people involved in the initiative.
- Uruguay: carries out a Territorial Digital Ecosystem aimed at improving the digital skills of small producers in seven localities of the Salto Department.
