30 November 2011, Rome - FAO has published the findings of its new Remote Sensing Survey on global forest loss between 1990 and 2005. Developed in collaboration with FAO member countries, the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), South Dakota State University, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the survey will susbstantially improve knowledge on changes in forest area as a result of deforestation, afforestation and natural forest expansion.
