FAO organizes AST WHONET training for new INFAAR members

17/10/2024

On 15-17 October 2024, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), organized a training on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) and data analysis using WHONET software at the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Supported by the United States Agency For International Development (USAID), the training welcomed over 30 participants, including new members of the Indian Network for Fisheries and Animals Antimicrobial Resistance (INFAAR), representatives from State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), and members from Regional and National Disease Diagnostic Laboratories (RDDL/NDDL). Currently, 35 institutes are part of INFAAR, making it essential to train new members on standardized testing protocols to generate harmonized results.

The training fostered stronger coordination and communication within the INFAAR and RDDL networks, enhancing understanding of AMR mitigation strategies, data analysis, and laboratory management. It also strengthened data-sharing mechanisms within the INFAAR network, supporting effective AMR management across institutions.
