The Pre-Summit of the UN Food Systems Summit will set the stage for the culminating global event in September by bringing together diverse actors from around the world to leverage the power of food systems to deliver progress on all 17 SDGs

In partnership with the Government of Italy, the Pre-Summit will take place in Rome from 26–28 July 2021.

It is important to ensure the Indigenous Peoples’ food systems are well placed to contribute to global debates on sustainable food systems and must be considered key allies for the UN Food Systems Summit. This is why, Indigenous Peoples’ with the support of FAO, are adamant in having a great presence in the upcoming summit; Indigenous Peoples food systems do provide game-changing solutions.

FAO, the Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems are organizing a UN Food Systems affiliated session during the Pre-summit. The White/Wiphala Paper on Indigenous Peoples’ food systems, written to inform the global debate about the transformation of current food systems to make them sustainable and resilience, advocates those lessons can be learnt from Indigenous Peoples’ approach to food, which will contribute to the resilience and sustainability of food systems worldwide, as well as supporting the wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples.

The parallel event will provide evidence on the sustainability of Indigenous Peoples’ food systems, including the ways in which they have proven resilient over time.
